Mr. Shuji Okabe
Part Owner at Spire Pest

It is my pleasure to recommend Jason Yamamoto for sales representative position with any company. Jason and I have worked together for about a year. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with Jason, and came to know him as a truly valuable asset to any team. He is honest, dependable, and incredibly hard working. His knowledge of web development and expertise in sales and managing teams was a huge advantage to our entire office. He put this skill set to work and sold over 15,000$ worth of revenue just in his first month. Along with his undeniable talent, Jason has always been an absolute joy to work with. He is a true team player, and always manages to foster positive input and output and bring the best out of other employees.

General Manager of Faculty of Culture, Language & Performing Arts, Brigham Young University Hawai'i

Jason Kamaua Yamamoto is one half of our two-man team of student web developers in the CLAPA faculty unit. He is from The Big Island of Hawaii—and is a born and bred Kanaka Maoli. Yamamoto is currently majoring in Marketing, and minoring in Communication and Information Technology here at BYU–Hawaii.

One of our favorite things about Yamamoto is his ability to interpret the lingo of web design, which can be taxing for the average person but, for him, it’s an extension of what he is studying here. Thus, we have been the lucky recipients of his many talents. Yamamoto shared that in this position he is able to use and develop further skills of web design, which is quite different from what he did previously.

Prior to the pandemic, Yamamoto had been working at The Polynesian Cultural Center as a tour guide. When The Polynesian Cultural Center shut down earlier this year, their student workers were reassigned to other tasks as needed. Eventually the pandemic changed The Polynesian Cultural Center student employment landscape further so, for the time being, Yamamoto and a host of student workers have been reassigned BYU–Hawaii campus positions.

Yamamoto enjoys his flexible work schedule and also enjoys working with an awesome team. The feeling is mutual from his work mates as well. His hobbies include bodyboard surfing, sailing snorkeling, and paddling.

Perhaps, and, more importantly, is how Yamamoto sees himself. His views are a reflection of what President David O. McKay shared in his Groundbreaking and Dedication of the then Church College of Hawaii, BYU–Hawaii: “…the world needs men who cannot be bought or sold, men who will scorn to violate truth, genuine gold. That is what this school is going to produce. More than that, they’ll be leaders. Not leaders only in this island, but everywhere. All the world is hungering for them and best of all the world is recognizing them.”

Yamamoto is self-motivated and projects a robust future for himself. He loves to read Church-related material and enjoys socializing with others. He is a self-taught person who tries to do his best in all his endeavors. In five years, he wants to be part of Tesla’s accounting team. In ten years, he wants to be a millionaire.

The sky is the limit for you, my friend.
